Color expert Kate Smith is predicting bold choices for residential door exteriors come 2015, according to Fortune Brands' Therma-Tru.

Fortune Brands Home & Security, Inc. completed the sale of Simonton Windows to Ply Gem Holdings, Inc., a manufacturer of exterior building products. 

Fortune Brands announced the agreement to sell Simonton Windows on August 20, 2014.

The Simonton business was sold for approximately $130 million, or roughly 10 times 2014 EBITDA. The Simonton sale is expected to reduce Fortune Brands' second half 2014 earnings per share from continuing operations by 2 to 4 cents, the copmany said.

Cary, North Carolina-based Ply Gem signed a deal with Fortune Brands Home & Security to acquire Simonton Windows.

The deal is valued at about 10 times Simonton’s earnings before interests, taxes, depreciation and amortization — about $130 million — and is expected to take close in October. Simonton’s annual revenues are more than $300 million.

Ply Gem will also acquire SimEx, a vinyl and PVC foam extrusion manufacturing plant in West Virginia, as part of the deal with Fortune Brands.

After a slow first quarter, Fortune Brands and Home Security saw a second-quarter 10% year-over-year sales bump. The company also announced that it had acquired Sentry Safe for $117.5 million.

In the second quarter, Fortune Brands reported $1.4 billion in sales, and $136.6 million in operating income before charges and gains — a $20.1 million increase over the second quarter of 2013. The total company’s pre-gains operating income grew by 28%.

The Deerfield, Ill.-based multi-purpose home product company reported fourth-quarter sales of $1.10 billion, up 16% from the same quarter last year. Net income was $64.6 million, up from $18.6 million in last year’s quarter.

Fortune Brands Home & Security has made a strategic move to strengthen its position as the self-titled industry leader in cabinetry through its acquisition of WoodCrafters Home Products, completed on Thursday, June 20.

WoodCrafters, a privately owned manufacturer of bathroom vanities and bathroom sink tops with annual sales of $230 million, will become part of Fortune's Kitchen & Bath Cabinetry segment as a business unit of MasterBrand Cabinets. WoodCrafters will retain its current management structure, staff, operations and locations.
