Indianapolis -- Farm and ranch and home automation were included in a list of highlights and opportunities for retailers attending the Do it Best Fall Market, which includes 61 new vendors this year.

Back by popular demand on the show floor is a 5,000 sq.-ft. Farm & Ranch exhibit, said Steve Markley, VP of Merchandising for the Fort Wayne, Indiana-based co-op.

“Farm and ranch is a fast growing segment for us,” Markley said during the co-op’s Merchandising Market Preview. “There are all kinds of opportunities in that area.”

Do it Best Corp. says it is bringing more resources to its INCOM Distributor Supply division. 

The Fort Wayne, Indiana-based co-op is expanding the team and dedicating additional resources to support INCOM Distributor Supply. The move reflects the business’ sustained growth and strategic importance, according to the co-op.

Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Do it Best Corp. added Nick Talarico as a divisional manager, effective Aug. 1.

In his new role, Talarico will oversee the hand tools, plumbing, cleaning, housewares and InCom departments within merchandising. He had previously served as the co-op’s manager of internal audit since May 2011.

Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Do it Best Corp. announced the retirement of one of its senior leaders while also transitioning another proven executive into a new position.   

Effective Oct. 24, Do it Best VP of Lumber and Building Materials Quent Ondricek will retire his position, while Gary Nackers, currently director of program development for LBM, will move into that role, effective Sept. 15.

Indianapolis -- Rich Lynch, who was named VP of marketing for Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Do it Best Corp. back in March, said he learned some valuable lessons about retail from his teenage years as a hardware store employee -- and also from his years as a marketing executive for Jim Beam.

Lynch met with the media here during the co-op's May Market. And with the words "helping members grow" stitched into his shirt sleeve, he talked about the importance of staying ahead of society's online movement and balancing all the "ingredients" of a successful hardware store.

The inaugural Leadership Development Institute (LDI) was held Nov. 12-15, at the co-op's Fort Wayne, Ind., headquarters. Twenty-three attendees took part in the training.

Indianapolis -- Bob Taylor has a good memory for weather conditions.

Back in March, the Do it Best Corp. CEO flew out of Fort Wayne, Ind., with the thermometer reading 14 degrees. On exactly the same day the year before, traveling to the same business event, the temperature was a balmy 83 degrees.
