The good news for American manufacturing is that companies love to say that they’re Made in the USA. The bad news is that many say so without really meaning it. Even while demand accelerates for homegrown products, the FCC requirements for advertising Made-in-USA products remain shrouded in ambiguity.

Marking the home builder's expansion into the Carolinas market, AV Homes has named Bill Kiselick as Carolinas Division president, effective Oct. 7.

Kiselick brings 25 years of North Carolina real estate experiene to the table, having most recently served as division president for Mattamy Homes' Carolinas Division. His resume also includes stints with MI Homes of Charlotte, Hills Communities of Charlotte and Fortis Homes.

Cemex and Concrete Supply Co. have announced their plans to form a joint venture in the Carolinas. The new company will be known as Concrete Supply Co., LLC and will boast a production capacity of 2 million cubic yards.

Based in Charlotte, N.C., Concrete Supply Holdings Co. will be the majority owner and managing member.

While housing markets deflated and subsequently bumped along a trough for several years, how many times did you hear that Texas appeared unscathed by the housing downturn? While significant lumber volumes continued to enter Texas, sales in other markets, such as those in Georgia and particularly the Atlanta market, were so scarce that empty and closed lumberyards in those markets became the norm.

Oklahoma City-based distributor Cedar Creek will purchase distribution company Epperson Lumber of Statesville, N.C. 

The two companies signed a "letter of intent" for the deal, expected to close in about 60 days.

Located near Charlotte, N.C., Epperson Lumber’s sales coverage area ranges East along the coast of the Carolinas; South to Charleston, S.C.; North to Richmond, Va.; and West to Knoxville, Tenn.
