In one of the more colorfully named fundraising traditions in all of hardware, a cook out in Colorado raised money for kids. 

The 4th annual Grill Your Ace Off outdoor cooking competition was held at Cherry Creek Ace Hardware in Denver on June 9. Fifteen teams competed for the grand prize, a Big Green Egg ceramic charcoal cooker and bragging rights for the next year.

Cherry Creek Ace Hardware is owned by Andy Carlson of Denver.

A settlement to a class-action lawsuit launched against grill-manufacturer Weber over its “Made-in-USA” claims is heading to a final approval hearing July 20 in San Diego. 

The original lawsuit filed in February last year alleged that Weber violated the law by designating Weber grills and certain accessories as "Made in USA."

Rialto, Calif.-based Bull Outdoor Products Inc., manufacturer of outdoor grills, carts and outdoor kitchens will begin manufacturing a line of Coleman BBQ Grills, including Carts, Outdoor Kitchens and their components.  

“We are excited to combine the strength of the Coleman brand with our manufacturing and retail knowledge to introduce a quality grill program into the marketplace,” said Frank Mello, VP sales and marketing, about the licensing deal.

Sure Fit Inc., a New York-based manufacturer of slipcovers, furniture covers and other home accessories, has acquired the assets of the Patio Armor brand of covers for patio furniture, barbecue grills and other outdoor products from Trilink Global. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

More than 75% of home entertainers prefer the more laidback approach and spacious feeling they get from entertaining in the great outdoors, according to Outdoor Entertaining Trends 2010: Consumers Bring the Indoors Out, a report from Port Washington, N.Y.-based NPD Group.

According to a report in the Nashville Business Journal, Dickson, Tenn.-based Fiesta Gas Grills filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection. 

According to the article, the company listed more than $35 million in liabilities and $15,000 in assets, with the largest secured creditor being Ontario-based Wolfdale Engineering, maker of propane cylinders.

An incident at a Louisiana Lowe's store Thursday revealed one of the drawbacks of outdoor merchandising. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported a motorist crashed into a Lowe's store near Covington, La., Thursday, running over a row of grills.

Desserts topped the list of “most challenging to grill” in the 22nd annual GrillWatch survey conducted by Weber-Stephen Products. Fish and pizza tied for second place, followed by shellfish and fruit.

Seven percent of Americans reported spending more than 10 hours each week cooking outdoors during their "grilling season," with almost half (49%) of all study respondents reporting that they grill or smoke-cook year-round, including 37% at or below freezing temperatures.

Madison, Wis.-based Wolf Appliance introduced its largest grill to date -- a 54-in., 51,000 Btu unit with five stainless steel burners. 

An optional side burner for high heat and preparing side dishes is available and packs 25,000 Btu into the outdoor configuration.

The company says the product is a response to consumer demand for more variety in outdoor grills.

Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse appeared at the 2011 True Value Spring Market to promote Emeril Outdoor Grills at the Viking Culinary Group booth.

Distributed and designed by Viking, the Emeril Outdoor Grills were added for the first time to the True Value warehouse program. 

Lagasse signed autographs at the Viking booth on Monday at the co-op's market in Orlando.

The Emeril Outdoor Charcoal Grill has 424 square inches of primary cooking surface, a heavy-duty construction and an easy-to-read thermometer.
