The Home Depot named Teresa Wynn Roseborough executive VP, general counsel and corporate secretary. She will join the company’s senior leadership team and report to Frank Blake, chairman and CEO. 

Roseborough will be responsible for leading The Home Depot’s legal department, as well as its government relations and corporate security services functions. She will assume her new role Nov. 7.

It took at least 90 trips to the returns desk for a Pennsylvania man accused of shoplifting to steal $70,000 worth of merchandise from Home Depot and Lowe’s stores in Allegheny County, according to a criminal complaint filed by the state’s Attorney General’s office. 

Authorities are still looking for Jason Novak, whom they accuse of stealing merchandise, returning it for store credit, and then selling the gift cards on craigslist for 60% of their value.

Discount retailer Target Corp. has agreed to pay the state of California $22.5 million to settle accusations that its stores dumped hazardous chemicals over a number of years, according to a tentative agreement filed in Superior Court in Alameda County.

Target admits no wrongdoing in the settlement, which is part of a crackdown on big-box retailers by California prosecutors. Both Home Depot and Walmart have been hit with multimillion-dollar fines in recent years for environmentally related violations.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice has ordered Menards Inc. to pay $30,000 in forfeitures, court costs and attorney fees for illegal hazardous waste disposal at its store in Onalaska, Wis.
