Bill Myrick, the former CEO of ProBuild and chief operating officer of 84 Lumber, has been hired as CEO of American Builders Supply (ABS), a leading supplier of doors, windows, millwork and trusses to home builders in Florida. ABS, which is owned by Blue Wolf Capital Partners, has five Florida locations and has consolidated four leading independent competitors in the last 15 months.

Joe Gardiner, 84 Lumber VP national sales, lost his life in a boating accident Saturday, July 7. He was 43 years old.

Gardiner joined 84 Lumber as an area manager in 2001, and moved to the national sales team in 2006. He was named VP national sales in 2010, where he oversaw the company’s sales and service initiatives with large national and regional builders.

84 Lumber has finalized a $225 million senior secured revolving credit facility to refinance existing debt, and for general corporate purpose. Wells Fargo Capital Finance and PNC Bank and acted as joint lead arrangers. GE Capital acted as co-collateral and documentation agent for the loan.

84 Lumber chief financial officer Paul Lentz said the new facility will give 84 Lumber greater financial flexibility and liquidity as it continues to improve its business following the housing market crash.

A Mount Vernon, Ohio, location of 84 Lumber -- one of six in the state -- closed its doors Monday morning, the Mount Vernon News reported.

Mount Vernon is about 50 miles northeast of Columbus in central Ohio. The store is located on 665 Harcourt Rd. in Mount Vernon.

National pro dealer 84 Lumber will close its yard in Fruitland, Md., one of the prime commercial real estate spots in the area, according to an article in the Daily Times.

A purchasing agreement is already in the works for the five-acre site, which was the former home to Masten Lumber & Supply Co. The new owners hope to develop a mixed-use restaurant and retail project at the busy intersection.

Being a privately held company, ProBuild has done its best to quietly close or sell off yards, downsize staff and add — or subtract — staffing under the radar.

ProBuild Holdings CEO Bill Myrick is no longer with the Denver-based pro dealer, according to an internal memo obtained by Home Channel News.

The email was distributed Monday morning to ProBuild Holdings employees informing them that Myrick, who held the title of president and CEO, is no longer with the company. Fred Marino will take over as CEO, while a search for a permanent replacement is launched, according to the memo. Marino currently serves as vice chairman of the board of ProBuild.

The memo was from Perry Odak, chairman of ProBuild.

The year 2004 marked the inauguration of the Home Channel Hall of Fame, with four deserving honorees, including Home Depot founders Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank, inducted during the Golden Hammer Awards ceremony.

The inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony also honored Joe Orgill, chairman of Orgill, and Joe Hardy, founder of 84 Lumber.

After a review of its stores and their local markets, 84 Lumber closed 10 locations throughout the United States on March 7. They are Farmingdale, N.J.; Karns, Tenn.; Ft. Pierce, Deland, and Brooksville, Fla.; Winder, Ga.; Anderson, S.C.; Springfield, Mo.; Tulsa, Okla.; and South Haven, Miss.
