Menards and Ace Hardware stores in Minnesota will participate in a promotion on energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) according to the St. Paul [Minnesota] Pioneer Press.
Regional utility company Xcel will help subsidize the cost of the energy-efficient bulbs so certain models will retail for 99 cents each, lower than the average price per bulb of $4. The promotion applies to 13 models that reach the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star labeling standards.
Xcel participated in a similar promotion in Colorado in September.
The promotion is expected to help reduce energy demands as well as meet the state’s mandate to cut its share of greenhouse gases.
Xcel Energy is a Minneapolis-based electricity and natural gas company with operations in eight states.
