Poll question: Orange vs. Blue

5/31/2018
In the past three years, Home Depot has outperformed its chief rival, Lowe’s, in the metric that many analysts consider to be the most meaningful test of a retailer’s health – comparable-store sales. In the most recent quarter, the Home Depot U.S. comp advantage was 3.9% for Depot, to 0.5% for Lowe’s.

The question posed by the current HBSDealer.com poll question is “why?” Specifically, “Why has Home Depot outperformed Lowe’s in recent years?”

  1. Stores and location

  2. Merchandise mix

  3. Management and execution

  4. Pro focus

  5. Digital focus

  6. All of the above

  7. None of the above

As you take the poll – located on the right side of this page (or scroll down your mobile device) Keep in mind that it wasn’t too many years ago when Lowe’s was regularly winning the quarterly comp-store showdown with its rival Home Depot. At the time, the analysis was fairly consistent – Lowe’s had better locations and more female-friendly stores.
