Home Depot Canada powers down

9/25/2018
The Home Depot Canada has been recognized by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) in Ontario as the 2017 Energy Manager of the Year.

The award was presented to The Home Depot for its commitment to energy conservation through its initiatives, including HVAC and LED lighting retrofits and reductions in energy consumption in stores.

The Energy Manager program is designed to help save energy and drive Ontario’s competitiveness.

In 2017, The Home Depot Canada launched The Power Project. Stores were provided with individual energy scorecards. Stores were then able to see how their location compared to other Home Depot buildings in a district.

“We started getting calls from stores that were wondering why their footprint was so much bigger,” says  Lesley Sovran, senior manager – field support and energy solutions at The Home Depot Canada.

In turn, 67 stores created their energy conservation teams last year. “That was just the start,” Sovran says.

With changes put into place, The Depot Canada saved energy in a big way. The total energy saved by the retailer was the equivalent of the power required to power 13 stores for an entire year.

The Home Depot Canada operates nearly 200 stores across Canada.
