The Do it Best October Market took place during a busy football weekend in Indianapolis, and there were also plenty of highlights inside the Indiana Convention Center.

The co-op’s Friday night Sneak Peek sales event hit a record $ 8.8 million of sales in 90 minutes, according to the co-op’s tally. The Mayor of Sikeston, Mo., where the co-op is building a new distribution center, handed Do it Best CEO Bob Taylor the ceremonial keys to the city. And the co-op distributed $ 116.4 million at its annual shareholders meeting.

Chicago -- The 2013 True Value Reunion promised a new experience for dealer attendees. Held in Chicago Sep. 20-22, the market event attracted a record crowd and helped introduce the new leadership tandem of John Hartmann, CEO, and Brent Burger, chairman of the board. 

The wording of the name of the event was carefully chosen to rebrand the True Value Company's fall market and convention as an enthusiastic gathering of family.

Ace Hardware dealers gathered in Orlando for the 2013 Ace Convention & Exhibits Sept. 10-12.

The event organizers say they expected more than 5,000 Ace retailers from all 50 states and 73 countries to attend.

In addition to buying and networking on the convention floor, the event’s retailer training sessions ran the gamut from strategies to remove unproductive inventory to prevent shoplifting and to increase retail space productivity.

Boston -- You won’t find Cobblestone Hardware anywhere outside of the Orgill Fall Market. But the Memphis, Tenn.-based distributor expects that many of the concepts will make their way into stores around the country.

The concept store at the Orgill market here at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center was described as a core hardware store and measured about 10,000 sq. ft.

Before: The 10,000-sq.-ft. “traditional” hardware store in a southeastern Ohio town of 3,500 was losing its way in a sea of retail competition, according to owner Karena Reusser. “It wasn’t unusual for wives to stay in the truck while their husbands came in to pick up an item,” Reusser said. “One afternoon, I even overheard a 7-year-old girl begging her mom to not make her come into our store. That really caught my attention.”
