As a deadly wildfire devastated the historic town of Lahaina on Maui, HPM Building Supply, indicated in a social media post that all HPM employees and owners of its four Maui locations – including its location in Lahaina—are safe.

Meanwhile, images of Lahaina posted in media outlets reveal widespread destruction. The fires of this week are expected to be the deadliest in Hawaii’s history.

In a post to social media, HPM Building Supply, a 102-year-old business with 16 total locations across Hawaii and one in Washington, wrote: “The devastation on Maui breaks our hearts.”

The post continued:

“Time and time again, when disaster strikes our islands, the people of Hawai‘i come together. This time, we come together for the people of Maui. We are reaching out to the County and other partners and determining the best ways for us to support relief and recovery efforts. We will share more information soon.

“We are thankful that all HPM Maui owner-employees are safe and accounted for. We know many people are still trying to reconnect with loved ones, and our hearts and thoughts go out to you.

“HPM Lahaina retail store remains closed until further notice. Our Kīhei Home Design Center and retail location and our retail locations in Wailuku and Makawao are open for normal operating hours.”

HPM Building Supply, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021 by partnering with nonprofits and other organizations across Hawaii to fulfill “100 Acts of Service.”

Founded as Hawaii Planning Mill, Ltd. in 1921, HPM became an employee-owned company in 1977. HPM corporate offices are based in Keaau, Hawaii
