Wal-Mart eyes Russia

Wal-Mart has announced the appointment of Stephan Fanderl as president-Wal-Mart emerging markets-East. In this role, Fanderl will lead the company’s efforts to explore retail opportunities in Russia and neighboring countries.

Fanderl comes to Wal-Mart from Rewe Group, a German retailer and travel company. He served as head of hypermarkets and supermarkets, developing Rewe’s business in Germany and eight Eastern European countries.

Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer by sales, currently has retail operations in India, China, Japan, South and Central America, as well as Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom.
