Job cuts, closures.

A slumping housing market has resulted in 26 employee lay-offs at 84 Lumber’s corporate headquarters, mostly in marketing and human resources. Stock Building Supply has closed lumberyards in Rush City and Lindstrom, Minn. Weyer-haeuser will permanently close its iLevel Trus Joist TJI plant in Claresholm, Alberta, on Aug. 30.

Bankruptcy news.

Pacific Lumber has reached a deal to borrow $75 million from a prebankruptcy lender, Marathon Structured Finance Fund. The Scotia, Calif.-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January. Pacific Lumber is a subsidiary of Houston-based Maxxam. Specialized lumber producer Timberlake Forest Products has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Launched in 2004 and based in Spokane Valley, Wash., the company makes finger-jointed framing lumber often used in green building projects.

New faces, promotions.

Pro-Build Holdings has beefed up its executive ranks with a new vp and general counsel, Mark Butterman, a former secretary and outside general counsel for Wickes Lumber. The Denver-based pro dealer also hired John O’Loughlin to the post of senior vp-human resources. Louisiana-Pacific has named Mike Blosser to the new position of vp-environmental health and safety. AZEK Building Products promoted Tonya Farina, regional manager for the Mid-Atlantic territory, to vp-marketing. Simonton Windows of Parkersburg, W.Va., has named Sid Spear to the post of vp-sales.
