The founder of Rent a Husband, Kalle Warren Jr., has filed a lawsuit against Ace Hardware and his former attorneys in a Portland, Maine, Superior Court, according to an article in the Portland Press Herald. He is seeking $200 million plus punitive damages.
The Maine Attorney General's Office dropped all criminal charges against Warren last month after he agreed to pay $2 million to settle claims that he duped investors in his home-repair business. Warren, who did not admit guilt as part of the settlement, also agreed to seek damages from his former law firms, whom he says gave him bad legal advice and guidance on obtaining investors.
Ace Hardware, which entered into a business venture with Warren and Rent a Husband and was planning to offer the service nationally, according to media reports, has also been named in the civil suit as part of the Attorney General’s settlement.
In the lawsuit, Warren claims that the criminal charges have adversely affected his career and business.
