Gen Y and Gen X: The Neatniks

A report on the home storage and organization category by The NPD Group indicates that consumers spent $3.3 billion on these products in the 12 months ending November 2010. Two-thirds of these purchases were in closet organization, with the remainder in laundry, tool and garage storage products. 

When asked about intent to purchase, Gen Y and Gen X consumers over-indexed in the storage and organization category. 

Nearly 20 percent of all storage/organization items sold in the 12-month period were purchased in the South Atlantic region of the U.S., according to the NPD Group, with another 17 percent selling in the Pacific region.
