Citizen helps police nab suspect

AHome Depot shopper witnessing a possible shoplifting crime followed the suspect in his car and helped police make the arrest, according to a report on WAPT-TV in Jackson, Miss.

Joe Evans told the news station that he witnessed a man fill his shopping cart with power tools and then “bolted out the door to a waiting SUV.” Evans called the Jackson Police Department and then followed the suspect to a nearby neighborhood. When police arrived, Evans pointed out that the suspect was hiding behind a towing trailer. Authorities arrested a 41-year-old man and booked him into the local detention center, according to the report.

“My father has all those same tools, and he’s worked years to get them,” Evans said in a televised interview. “Why should this guy get away with stealing something somebody [else] has to work for and earn?”
